Avalanche warning for region Svalbard sør Monday 14.03.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Increasing temperatures leads to higher avalanche danger. Isolated terrain feature may hold unstable wind slabs. Weak layers deep in the snow pack can now become more active.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Monday night. Moderate gale from west, changing to breeze from the south during the evening. -5 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

OPPDATERT 14.03 kl 9: Trolig vil ikke snøskredfaren øke til faregrad 4 - STOR før det blir mer mildvær og regn tirsdag. Snøskredfaren vil fortsatt være betydelig mandag.
Varselet er basert på et enklere datagrunnlag enn regionale varsler og utgis kun for faregrad 4 og 5. Mildvær og regn kan føre til at store skred løsner av seg selv under mildværsgrensa. Over mildværsgrensa vil det kunne løsne store skred når kraftig vind og nedbør som snø fører til stor pålagring av fokksnø over kort tid.
